Aims and Philosophy

Perse Sport
The primary aim of Girls' Sport at The Perse is to enable all female pupils to have a rewarding and fulfilling experience in their sporting life at the School, and to feel suitably enriched by the balance that this offers with the academic. Although we strive for excellence we aim for mass-participation.
Coaching staff are keen to pass on their knowledge and enthusiasm in such a way as to afford Perse pupils the widest and best opportunity to enhance their abilities and interests.
Important sporting values such as knowledge of laws, sportsmanship, codes of conduct, respect for officials, discipline, reliance, leadership, teamwork, winning, losing and simply having fun, are all fostered within the framework of the programmes offered.

Success isn't something that
just happens - success is learned, success
is practised and then it is shared
The sports program aims to provide an environment in which every pupil gains a positive experience, is able to strive for excellence, and is encouraged to be actively involved in sporting activity throughout life.
Our approach to sport is in line with the School’s belief that education is concerned with the whole human being, and that every pupil has the ability to achieve something worthwhile and possibly excel in some sporting field.
The provision for Netball at the School allows abilities to develop their sporting skills at recreation or team level. Each of the three senior teams benefits from an experienced coach.
All pupils are encouraged to find their niche and to participate on a regular basis throughout the year. Those with outstanding ability are also encouraged to attain the highest possible levels through county, regional and national structures and beyond.
We are determined to build on this strong foundation of sporting success and keep as many girls as possible representing the School. Sport will always remain a vital part of education.
Fixtures
Many fixtures are provided over the Lent term against a variety of opposition, including schools and clubs. Most fixtures take place on Tuesday, Thursdays and Wednesdays, during games afternoons or Saturdays. The matches are played in a very competitive but sporting spirit.
The school participates in the county and regional school’s competitions which takes place each year.
Facilities
Facilities include two Netball courts: an indoor and an outdoor 'all weather' hard area.
The girls benefit from the experience of external national coaches during the course of the year as well as a wealth of experience amongst the staff.

Achievements
Each year an increasing number of girls represent the School within our major sports, fulfilling a competitive and demanding fixture list. Girls are also encouraged to explore the wider community by joining local clubs and Ladies' leagues, some of which we have partnerships with. We continue to participate in county and regional rounds and last year went on to represent the East.
In the years since the girls joined The Perse Sixth Form Netball has much grown and flourished. Due to increasing number of girls entering The Perse each year we can offer a 1st, 2nd and 3rd Netball teams.
We continue to develop our structure for pre-season training, triangular fixtures and annual tours, which have included Ireland and UK counties.
The girls use there leadership skills and team work ethos to help to raise money for elected charities, for example 'Race for Life' (Cancer Research UK). The girls participate in a Sporting Student Committee which enables an environment for discussion and a sense of ownership, in order to review, evaluate and modify developments within Perse Girls' Sport.
