Boys' Hockey
Aims and Philosophy
The aim of hockey at the School is to strive for excellence both in performance and attitude and to cater for pupils regardless of ability by providing access to first-class coaching and facilities.
Fixtures
The school has a well developed hockey structure comprising of over 25 teams from under 12s through to the under 18 1st XI. Each group runs between three and six teams giving those of all abilities the chance to represent the school at hockey.

All teams play competitive outdoor matches against a well established and strong fixture list. These fixtures include schools such as Felsted, Bishop's Stortford, Gresham's, St Albans, Ipswich, Norwich, Bedford and The Leys. The School also enter the Schools Championships at U13, U14, U16, and U18 age groups.
During the Michaelmas Term we also facilitate U16 and U18 indoor teams who enter a Cambridge club league and the Schools Tournament.
Facilities
Hockey players benefit from an on site full sized sand-based Astroturf, numerous high quality grass pitches and an international sized indoor pitch located in the sports hall. During the busy Lent term we also access other artificial pitches in the local area to provide facilities to as many pupils as possible.
We have a strong coaching staff - several have played national league or higher (including Glenn Kirkham current England Men's Hockey Captain) and many who play in the local league in the Cambridge area, facilitating links with local clubs.
Achievements
The school has won two national schools titles in the last three years, adding to the many county and regional trophies amassed in previous years.
The first national title came in the U14 outdoor tournament 2005, overcoming the dominant sporting school of Millfield 1-0 in the final. This was followed up by taking the U16 Indoor Championship 2007, beating Sevenoaks Hockey Club 4-3 in the final (shown on Sky Sports).
We aim to not only develop strong school teams but to also create pathways for individuals to develop and achieve further representative honours. With this in mind many pupils (past and present) have progressed to county, regional and junior international teams.
